Disappointing Claim Jumper Cupcakes

February 6, 2010June 21, 2022 5 comments

I had lunch at the Claim Jumper restaurant and saw these beautiful cupcakes in the dessert display case at the front of the restaurant. I knew I had to test them! So, I ordered one of each to bring home and review.  One Old Fashioned Chocolate and one Red Velvet, both with a vanilla cream cheese frosting.  In the store this is what they looked like (photo from their webpage)…

Delicious looking, right?  WRONG.  By the time I got home, this is what they looked like…

I tried to put the frosting back on but they weren’t quite as pretty as they were in the store.

Not exactly how I expected them to fair on the car ride home.  I’ve NEVER had cupcakes fall apart like this when bringing them home before.  Needless to say, from this point the level of impressiveness was going downhill.

The cupcakes themselves were very large, tall actually and felt very moist to the touch, so I started with that.  Both of the cupcakes bases were very good, flavorful and moist.  And actually…. sooooo yummy.  The frosting however was quite disgusting.  It tasted like sweet lard with a hint of cream cheese.  It was greasy and gooey and completely ruined the cupcake.  After the first taste of the frosting, I scraped it all off so it wouldn’t ruin the cake part.

Final analysis… if you’re in the mood for really good CAKE with no frosting, order the cupcakes at Claim Jumper and scrape the frosting off.  If that’s not what you’re in the mood for… DO NOT order these cupcakes.  Over priced and very disappointing.

Yeah, you are right on. The cupcakes at Claim Jumper are not their best dessert.
