Why Pumpkin + Chocolate is the Best Combo

Ingredients Breakdown
These waffles come together with simple pantry ingredients and a few fall essentials. You probably have most of these in your kitchen right now!
- All-purpose flour
- Brown sugar
- Baking powder and baking soda
- Pumpkin puree
- Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger
- Chocolate chips (or dark chocolate chunks, yum!)
- Your favorite toppings (maple syrup, whipped cream, chopped nuts)
Let’s Get Mixing!
Now that we’ve got our ingredients ready, let’s start mixing things up. First, combine your dry ingredients—flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and spices—in a large bowl.
In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients—pumpkin puree, chocolate milk, melted butter, and an egg—until smooth and combined. This is where the magic starts!
Time to Cook!
Heat up your waffle iron and get ready to make some delicious waffles! Once preheated, pour your pumpkin batter into the waffle iron. Be careful not to overfill—no one likes batter spills.
Close the waffle maker and let the waffles cook until they are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. You’ll know they’re done when your kitchen starts to smell like fall. Let the waffles cool slightly before serving, so the chocolate chips inside stay nice and gooey.
How to Serve Your Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Waffles
Now for the best part—eating! These waffles are incredibly versatile, so go ahead and top them however you like. Some of my favorite toppings include:
- A generous drizzle of maple syrup
- Whipped cream
- Chopped walnuts or pecans
- More chocolate chunks (because, why not?)
Extra Tips for Perfect Waffles
If you’re looking for a few extra tips to make sure your waffles are perfect every time, I’ve got you covered:
- Grease your waffle iron. A little cooking spray or butter will go a long way in preventing sticking.
- Don’t overmix the batter. You want your batter to be just combined, so your waffles stay light and airy.
- Freeze for later. These waffles freeze beautifully. Just let them cool completely, then pop them in a freezer bag for busy mornings. Reheat in the toaster for that perfect crunch!
Get Creative with Your Waffle Batter
Feeling adventurous? Try mixing things up by adding a few fun ingredients to your waffle batter:
- Swap chocolate chips for dark chocolate chunks.
- Mix in some finely chopped nuts for a crunchy texture.
- Add a tablespoon of cocoa powder for extra chocolatey waffles.
The possibilities are endless!
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Waffles are the ultimate fall breakfast indulgence. Whether you’re serving them at a cozy brunch or enjoying them on a lazy Sunday morning, they’re sure to be a hit. Don’t forget to share your waffle creations with me on Instagram using #JavaCupcake.
I can’t wait to see how you top your waffles this pumpkin season!
