Last weekend my husband and I took the 75 minute drive from Tacoma to Snohomish to taste test cupcakes from Simply Sweet Cupcakes & Bite Me Cupcakes. While we were in the quaint little town, we also got our fingers on some pie and pizza… who knew this simple city nessled in the valley would be full of such delicious treats?!
First stop was Simply Sweet Cupcakes located at 1206.5 1st St. Snohomish, WA, 98290. Hiding next to a restaurant, Simply Sweet Cupcakes can be found on the main road of Snohomish with a cute cupcake tree on display in their front window.
When you first walk in, the store feels almost like a coffee shop with the dark wood fixtures, but then your eye catches the display of cupcakes and the pink walls and you know you’re in a cupcake shop!
Inside the shop, they only have room for a few tables and chairs but also have some fun cupcake accessories on sale too, including their own cupcake wrappers.
Onto the good stuff… the cupcakes! Now, I will say, I was a bit disappointed in the selection of the cupcakes. Granted we were in on a weekend… but I expected a bit more variety. What I did find was an array of the typical flavors to be found in a cupcake shop in both regular size and mini: chocolates, vanilla, orange, mint, etc.
We tried three cupcakes. Chocolate Mint, Orange, and Cookies and Cream.
Now, for those of you who have been reading me for a while now, you know that I try to be honest in my reviews. I won’t give a cupcake a stellar review if it doesn’t deserve it, but I’m not going to completely trash it either. So with that said, I’m going to be honest again with these cupcakes.
I wasn’t impressed with them. They were just… cupcakes. They had good flavor, but they didn’t blow me out of the water. The frosting was very heavy compared to the cake which was very light and airy. The cupcakes crumbled after the first bite and could no longer hold the weight of the frosting. So to me, they were a bit mismatched.
The chocolate mint cupcake tasted good… the mint flavor buttercream was really quite good. I actually liked this cupcake the best.
The cookies and cream was good too… a lot of chocolate flavor in it. This one was my daughters favorite.
The orange, it was forgettable. Didn’t have much orange flavor to it and the frosting was a bit greasy. Disappointing because it was the only non-standard cupcake flavor in their case.
Now, don’t get me wrong… these cupcakes tasted very good!! But having tasted A LOT of cupcakes in my day… you could say that I have an idea of what a perfect cupcake should be. But, if you’re in the neighborhood and want a yummy chocolate cupcake, I’d recommend Simply Sweet.

Next up was Bite Me Cupcakes located on the same street just a half block away at 1118 First St., Snohomish WA, 98290.
From first look, Bite Me stood out from the street! Their store front screamed CUPCAKES INSIDE! COME EAT ME! Well, not literally, but seriously, look at those bright pink signs on the windows!
Inside the shop I was pleasantly surprised to find how cute it was! I literally found myself getting excited like a little girl at all the pink, pretty chandelier and decor! Bite Me is the perfect place for a little girls birthday party or an afternoon date with girlfriends for a cupcake treat!
One of my favorite parts about this shop was found down the hall… a window to the kitchen!! OMGosh I just love that I could stand at the window and watch the bakers frosting and creating cupcakes!
At the counter, they had some beautiful cupcakes on display for Valentine’s Day! It was fun to see them all dressed up for the holiday of love!
On to the really important stuff… their cupcakes!! The display case at Bite Me was PACKED full of a variety of cupcakes and flavors! I was so excited to see how many they had available, it took me forever to decide which ones to get!
Oh… and before I get to the cupcakes I picked… have you ever seen this before? I’ve heard of Frosting Shots…. but Sprinkle Shots?? OH MY GOSH!!! YUmmmmo!!!
Ok so we picked three cupcakes, Banana, Chocolate Peanut butter and Lemon. I just love how they were served to us on little plates with napkins and a fork!! Made them feel so special!
First was my daughters choice of cupcake, the chocolate peanut butter. It was a chocolate cake topped with peanut butter frosting and a pb cup.
This cupcake was my favorite… any combo of chocolate and peanut butter is a winner in my book. The cake was a little dry, but other than that… this was a good cupcakes.
Next was my husbands pick. It’s a lemon cupcake filled with lemon curd and topped with a lemon frosting dipped in yellow sugar crystals.
The curd inside this cupcake was super yummy. I mean super yummy. The frosting however, not so yummy. I had a feeling it was a meringue type frosting, but it was greasy and kinda slimey and didn’t have a very sweet taste. I was disappointed because I really love a lemon cupcake.
Last, was my choice. A banana cupcake topped with what looked and tasted like a chocolate frosting.
The cake on this cupcake had tons of great banana flavor and was really quite good. I ate almost all of the cake part. The frosting, again like the lemon, just wasn’t that good. It was greasy and just had a texture and consistency that I didn’t like. Again, probably because it seemed like it was a meringue type frosting, which I don’t like.
Overall though, these cupcakes were good. If you enjoy meringue frostings, then you’ll really love this shop. For more info about Bite Me Cupcakes, visit their website.
Darn, I would have made some for you as well if I’d known you’d be in my neck of the woods! Camille’s Cupcakes is based out of Snohomish too, but we’re web based. Maybe I can send you some cupcakes sometime to taste test all the cupcakes Snohomish has to offer! Thanks for making the drive out here, it’s a great town huh!

I live in Snohomish, so i’ve been to both places. I find Simply Sweet to be mediocre. To me, their cake & frosting both taste exactly like Betty Crocker. Betty Crocker is ok, but not when you’re paying $3.00 per cupcake (or maybe it was $2.75…it’s been awhile). I absolutely LOVE Bite Me Cupcakes, and was really disappointed when they lost their lease in Snohomish & moved to Everett Mall. Prior to that, I stopped by at least every other week. Their red velvet is the best I’ve ever had. I’m not sure what you’re referring to with the frosting, although it does have a strange texture, but I really love the flavor of it. Every once in awhile I will get a dry one, but mostly they are super moist and delicious.
I was in Snohomish today and Simply Sweet on First in downtown has shuttered their shop. Their other location in Snohomish is still open though, but quite a ways out of the shopping district.
That’s too bad their shop had to close. š
