On a personal note…

This isn’t going to be a sweet blog. It’s not going to be about buttercream or cupcakes. It’s a serious blog about a very serious topic close to my heart.

Earlier this year,  one of my husbands very good friends was injured while on a mission in Iraq. Ian Ralston’s Stryker vehicle encountered an IED and he sustained a spinal cord injury and is paralized from the neck down. Ian is currently recovering at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, MN and id doing very well, given the circumstances.

On September 23, 2010 a fundraiser was held to honor Ian and raise money for his family as they prepare their home for Ian’s return.  The event was all day at BJ’s Restaurant in Tacoma, WA where it is estimated that 1000 soldiers and friends came out to eat.  15% of the proceeds from the day went to Ian… totaling almost $3000.

My friend Heather and I put together a video tribute to Ian composed of photos and video greetings from the event.

If you would like more information about how you can help Ian and his family prepare for his return home, please visit their CaringBridge page, Facebook page, or email his mother Sue here.  Thank you!
